Tattersall’s Finke Desert Race, since 1976 the race held each year on the second week of June (Queen’s Birthday). The race is a two day event running in the Northern Territory of Australia between Alice Springs to Finke 230km course. Day 1 starts from Alice Springs to Finke; Day 2 is the same course reversed starting from Finke to Alice Springs, combined score times for the overall winner in each class. Smith and Matthews racing their Alumi Craft in the Super 1650 Buggy class were in third after day one, with a time difference of 27.23 second behind the first day leader Johnstone and Henke. Day 2 Smith and Matthews had a remarkable day finishing with a 2:28.05 minute lead and giving them of overall combined score 4:48:11.56 to be awarded 2010 Tattersall’s Finke Desert Race S1650 Class winners.
